Real Stories Real Recovery

As a client, The Healing Place was instrumental in turning my life around from the throes of alcoholism. Since completing the program, I have done my best to apply the skills and tools I gathered to help others learn to lift themselves out of the darkest times in their lives. My experience has shown me that the greatest asset of this program is the alumni who stay close to lend the light they have found to the current clients. It is an honor to be asked to come on as staff, where I can stay close and continue to give life to the program that taught me how to live.

Brandon M

My name is TJ, and I am a recovering alcoholic. Before I came to The Healing Place, I was addicted to more. Eventually, my bottom became too deep, and I needed to do something different. I spent countless days destroying my community, friends, family, and spirit, chasing an ever-demoralizing and powerful opponent that was my substance of choice. Give me a drink or drug, and I become disgustingly and dangerously anti-social. I have been incarcerated, institutionalized, hospitalized, and homeless because of my addictions. The Healing Place has given me life now. I am no longer surviving; I am living. I have found hope, value, and respect for a life filled with peace and joy.

My time at The Healing Place was a moment in my life where I learned to love myself again because the people here loved me back to life. I appreciated the reflection time here so I could hold myself accountable in a positive way. The Healing Place has taught me how to address old behaviors and turn them into positive ones. I can honestly say that I love who I am growing into … I am proud to be a part of something bigger than myself.
